For as long as I can remember I've never understood this "Happy New Year" thing. Happy New Year or Have a Happy New Year is fine, but why are people always saying, "How was your New Year?" I usually say something like, "I don't know, it just started." or "Ask me next year and I'll let you know." Sometimes I'll use the old standby, "Aren't you going to be in my Happy New Year?"
